The livestreamed collaborative workshop ‘Exploring connections between AI and Music’ will feature a panel of pioneering artists working with AI and Music – Claire L. Evans from YACHT, Jan St Lerner from Mouse on Mars and Ivan Paz – joined by experts in machine learning – Michela Milano (Università di Bologna), Jordi Pons (Dolby) and Javier Ruiz (UPC) – to explore and debate the impact of Artificial Inteligence on music, and the creative possibilities of this application. This Autumn, from 27th to 30th October 2021, Sónar will celebrate two new festivals in Barcelona, with in-person activities at the CCCB and other spaces, and a program of online content produced in collaboration with local and international partners in cities around the world.

For the first time in Barcelona, Sónar in association with the Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona (UPC) and betevé, will organize the AI and Music Festival, focused on the application of artificial intelligence to musical creation, and part of the S+T+ARTS program of the European Commission.

The AI and Music festival will live alongside a much-expanded, and more music focused edition of SónarCCCB at Barcelona’s Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), which will feature a number of stages dedicated to live music, as well as the talks, workshops, debates and presentations of Sónar+D.

Both festivals will be predominantly in-person events, with a significant digital component. In total, more than 60 activities will take place, the majority with a physical audience, as well as online exclusives, with the goal of designing content specifically with online audiences in mind.

Taking place this Thursday 13th May, from 17:00 – 19:00 CET, Sónar, UPC and betevé present the collaborative workshop ‘Exploring connections between AI and Music’. Bringing together a panel of groundbreaking artists – Claire L. Evans of YACHT, Jan St. Lerner of Mouse on Mars and Ivan Paz – and experts in machine learning – Michela Milano (Università di Bologna), Jordi Pons (Dolby) and Javier Ruiz (UPC) – the workshop will explore the potential and explain the challenges of using AI in musical creation.

The workshop will be in English, and will be live-streamed for free, in what will be both the presentation of the AI and Music Festival, and its first event. For more information and to watch the livestream, click here.

The AI and Music Festival will take place at Barcelona’s CCCB on 27th and 28th of October 2021, is an initiative of S+T+ARTS, Advanced Music, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and betevé, in association with Factory Berlin, c/o pop Festival, TodaysArt and BOZAR. The consortium of Sónar, UPC and betvé was selected by the European Commission to organize the AI and Music Festival, part of its S+T+ARTS (Science, Technology and the Arts) program.
