Australian electronic virtuoso ShockOne unveils his third studio album Organism Algorithm via his Dark Machine Records label ahead of supporting Pendulum on their 2024 UK arena tour.
Long been described as a pioneer of the drum & bass scene in Australia, the Perth-based producer has developed a flair for sonic exploration. First bursting onto the scene with his ground-breaking ARIA # 1 LP Universus in 2013, ShockOne has since solidified himself as Australia’s premier D&B bass music producer with over 30M streams across all platforms and official remixes for the likes of DJ Snake, Dillon Francis, NGHTMRE and What So Not under his belt. His sophomore album and major label debut A Dark Machine saw the title track make it into the top 10 singles on the Australian singles charts and kick-started ShockOne’s annual 3,000-capacity A Dark Machine Warehouse event that has now expanded to both Australia and New Zealand.
Now marking a career defining moment, the 12 track album flows through everything from hyper granular and extra rhythmic to the most potently ethereal and visceral moments of the D&B genre. The producer reflects on the meaning of the album title, “the whole idea of identity and the self comes into question if all our thoughts and actions can be reduced to algorithms. I’ve been obsessed with this idea for quite some time, particularly with the recent popularisation and widespread access to AI. I find it interesting that the more we learn about ourselves, the more blurred the lines become between intelligence and artificial intelligence, and how we define the two.” The album is a heady combination of his Australian roots and global reach, featuring UK collaborators like Freaks & Geeks, American vocalist Pauline Herr and New Zealand artist Lee Mvthews alongside fellow Australian musician Reija Lee. He’s previously built his UK presence with support from BBC Radio 1 and KISS FM as well as collaborating with UK artist Metrick on his album Ex Machina.
Solidifying his position as one of Australia’s eminent electronic acts, Organism Algorithm showcases the evolution of ShockOne’s wealth of production knowledge and engineering expertise with a collection of sweltering anthems. Looking towards a future that burns bright, he’s gearing up for an album tour around Australia and New Zealand in addition to supporting Pendulum on their UK arena tour the 24th-31st March.
ShockOne – Organism Algorithm is out 23rd Feb via Dark Machine Records.
