Brighton-based producer Silloh, real name Hugo Hollis, returns to Soulvent with a bass-heavy 2-track single in the form of The Conqueror / Whiplash. Initially released on the first edition of our ‘Tonics’ series back in May, Hugo’s productions are beginning to garner support from some well-respected tastemakers including the much-loved Break, who released Silloh’s second release on his own Symmetry Recordings with ‘Fields of Green’.
Opener ‘The Conqueror’ stakes its claim with playful pops of tuned percussion and big drums setting the tone. Robotic, processed vocals take centre stage leading in a sense of dread while the drop ushers in menacing sonics for a truly deep, dark and gully experience on this heavy-duty creeper.
Sharing its name with both a Hollywood classic and an unfortunate neck injury, ‘Whiplash’ promises to induce a sudden head-nodding upon first listen. An unsettling atmosphere develops with eerie, spacey pads atop a tight drum break, quickly descending into a deep bassline. Not to mention the powerful momentum that is complimented by a growing resonance in the synth. Which is met with satisfying splashes of amen and warped vocals.
With both cuts landing Friday 26th November, we keenly await Silloh’s domination of the dance as ‘The Conqueror’ / ‘Whiplash’ is ready to be whipped out and lashed on speakers worldwide, across all major digital platforms and streaming services.
Released on November 26th 2021, Soulvent Records.
