Matt Lally, better known by just his last name, is a London-based drum & bass producer who’s been causing a ruckus since his debut release on Soulvent in 2021, now boasting releases across Hospital, Soulvent and Cardinal Sound’s Archway. He’s garnered impressive radio support across BBC 1Xtra, Radio 1 and KISS from the likes of Sarah Story, Sian Anderson, Rene LaVice and Fred V to name a few. Following on from ‘Love The Way’ released with Lens in 2022, he steps up to the plate this year with a meaty 4-track offering which showcases more of his own developing sound.
‘Trusted You’ is a vibe-laden liquid roller, complete with languid, moody pianos and emotionally charged vocals. A beautifully uncomplicated vocal track, which deftly intercepts the listener’s attention.
‘Generations’ is a techier offering, beginning with high-energy drums before unleashing a driving, screw-face-inducing bassline that will elicit gun fingers from even the most placid raver. Woe betide anyone who underestimates the second drop as faces are encouraged to melt further throughout the progression of the track.
‘Flicker’ sees Lally collaborate with up-and-coming vocalist Reico Vibes, and the result is a soulful liquid number that is bursting at the seams with emotion.
Finally, EP title-track ‘Blue Razz Lemonade (feat. Askel & Elere)’ is a rambunctious bubbler, Askel & Elere bring their trademark, haunting sci-fi liquid soundscapes in the form of a bounding bassline and detuned synths while Lally’s recognisably crisp drums provide the perfect garnish to this competent concoction.
The refreshing, effervescent ‘Blue Razz Lemonade’ EP is available from all good stores on Friday the 15th of September.
