Soulvent poster boys Josh Croft and Bailey Greer released their debut record ‘Voyager’ in April 2020, their first foray into the realms of the long player. The album provided a welcome soundtrack to a definitively difficult year and featured the talents of Lucy Kitchen, Carasel MC, Walk:r, Mistrust, and the mighty Logistics. The record displayed their penchant for soothing soundscapes, futuristic flourishes and luscious layering, which permeate whichever subgenre they set out to conquer. Following in the heavy footsteps of Pola & Bryson, the two carved out their own Freshman record to be treasured on dancefloors, wax and headphones alike. Voyager shows just how their sound traverses the depths of the scene and has received support from veteran artists like Ray Keith, Technimatic and Etherwood. The pair have picked some of their favourite tracks from the record to receive the remix treatment from a varied line up of musical talents, and so we proudly present the Voyager: Alternate Routes EP.
First up, new Soulvent exclusive signees Askel & Elere take on ‘Silver Lining (feat. Walk:r)’ resulting in a slick, moody twist on the original. Japanese futurist Mountain tackles ‘Scuba’ putting forward a rousing, driving and uplifting synth-soaked rehash in trademark Mountain style. Critically acclaimed Critical Music founder Kasra follows, delivering a murky, droning switch up of ‘Do You’ that is perfect for your nearest d&b party or picnic. New blood comes in the form of Cauzer’s hell-raising remix of ‘Embers (feat. Walk:r & Carasel)’. The Bristol resident turns her hand to this dancefloor destroyer that further showcases the talents of up and coming Walk:r and veteran MC Carasel with the result a fizzing, clunky foot tapper.
OSO is both an Australian authority on garage and one half of In:Most, with his remix of ‘Home (feat. flowanastasia)’ providing a wonderfully 2-step take on the stand-out single. The uplifting soundscape and permeating positivity of its harmony provides a perfect second home for the Ukranian born vocalist’s love song. Rounding out the release, avid synthwave producer Voyage, FKA as Nexus & Tight, takes us on a journey with his interpretation of ‘Fever Dreams (feat. Mistrust)’ providing one of two variations on a theme on a multi-genre EP. This futuristic rendition provides a thumpingly enjoyable rework of the original sure to leave your head nodding.
The ‘Alternate Routes’ 6-track diversion does more than just d&b, it provides a warmly greeted reminder of the joy its predecessor offered in such unprecedented times. Available in all good stores from the 30th of April 2021, we invite you to buckle up and ensure you’re sitting comfortably for this delightful detour.
