Sónar+D CCCB now available in VOD. Connecting the local and international creative scenes over two days in September 2020 Sónar+D CCCB 2020 brought together artists, hackers, thinkers, scientists, activists, programmers, designers and technologists from around the world at Barcelona’s CCCB. The hybrid event featured 140 activities, including live shows, dj sets, conferences video performances and workshops, all of which were broadcasted from Barcelona on two audiovisual channels in a free digital event.
Now, for the first time, the vast majority of the program is available to re-watch in VOD. Unmissable music performances of Sónar+D CCCB 2020.
Among the shows now available to re-watch in VOD are the immersive AV performances from John Talabot & Desilence and Carles Viarnes & Alba G. Corral, filmed at Barcelona’s IDEAL studios and making full use of 360º projections and high quality audio to spellbinding effect, as well as exclusive live sets from Max Cooper, with an AV Live set filmed at Kings Place studios London, L’Hospitalet rapper Morad and sonic adventurer Shoeg, both filmed live at betevé.
Also available is ARCA’s discipline expanding DJ set, performed live at CCCB during the event, and marking the groundbreaking artist’s first show in front of a live audience since March. Joyful and provocative, her set serves as the perfect introduction to the rest of the in-person live shows from a who’s who of Barcelona’s electronic music underground: a live debut of all original material from Ylia, the immersive electronics and 3D lightshow of Huma ft Eyesberg, or the soothing ambient soundscapes of Marçal Xirau.
The music program continues with exclusive video performances and content contributed from artists close to the festival. These capsules, streamed during the event include new material and intimate performances from Sega Bodega, Daito Manabe, Niño de Elche, Chenta Tsai, Ms Nina, Lolo & Sosaku and more.
Looking at the local scene, Sónar+D CCCB also presents 24hrs of continuous DJ sets, recorded back to back over two days from the spectacular Torre d’Alta Mar venue in Barcelona’s port, and in association with dublab BCN. Fourteen representatives of the city’s dance music underground, including Shelly, MBODJ, People You May Know, Troya Modet and Lapsus affiliates C.E.E. Shepherds took control of the decks from midday to midnight, for a sonic journey taking in freestyle, ambient, global beats, grime, techno, house and everything in-between.
Conferences, talks and debates: environmental awareness and the relationship between creativity and science.
Similarly expanding horizons and making connections is the full program of Talks, headed up by a deep dive into the current and possible future permutations of club culture from techno-auteur Richie Hawtin and artist-technologists Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst, in an un-aired episode of their Interdependence podcast, exclusively filmed for Sónar+D CCCB at Factory Berlin.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the future and how we can change it is a constant theme throughout the program. Sougwen Chung and Monica Rikic, set out two cases for seeing machines as artistic collaborators not competitors in ‘Creative Robotics’, while strategies for dealing with the uncertainty of developments are put forward by post-futurist Elisabet Roselló in ‘So What about the Future?’.
Elsewhere, our changing environment and how climate change can be addressed through art is the focus of the lecture and exhibition ‘AIRE/ARIA/AIR’, curated by Olga Subirós and presented by Institut Ramón Llull, as well as in the S+T+ARTS talk, ‘Re-Thinking the Future of Cities’ where artists and environmental activists demonstrate how the urban space can be reshaped ethically.
